Heckery Dekkery Dot Travel Game Postcards for Children . . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong><em>Berlin is a really \u201cspecial\u201d place! &#8211; <strong><em>Berlin ist ein ganz besonderer Ort!<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From 1961 until 1989, a 12-foot high, concrete wall ran through, as well as around, the city of Berlin.\u00a0 The wall was called the \u201c<strong>Berlin Wall<\/strong>\u201d, and there were only a few places called \u201ccheckpoints\u201d where people could get through.\u00a0 One of the main checkpoint places was <strong>Checkpoint Charlie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_496\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heckerydekkerydot4ifuwerehere.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dscf2415-checkpoint-charlie-edited.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-496\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-496\" title=\"DSCF2415 -CHECKPOINT Charlie edited\" src=\"http:\/\/heckerydekkerydot4ifuwerehere.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dscf2415-checkpoint-charlie-edited.jpg?w=204\" alt=\"\" width=\"204\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Checkpoint Charlie<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heckerydekkerydot4ifuwerehere.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dscf2419-edited-berlin-wall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-495\" title=\"DSCF2419 edited Berlin Wall\" src=\"http:\/\/heckerydekkerydot4ifuwerehere.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dscf2419-edited-berlin-wall.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The Berlin Wall was meant to keep the citizens of Berlin from moving about freely, but today the citizens of Berlin can move freely again!\u00a0 They are free to do the things that they like to do once more, and this is really special for them!\u00a0 Just think about how you feel when you are not allowed to do something that you really like to do?\u00a0 It isn\u2019t a lot of fun, is it?<\/p>\n<p>Everyone is happy that Berliners are free to move and to do what they want once again!\u00a0 In fact, there was a big celebration in front of the Brandenburg Gate to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.\u00a0 Lots of world leaders, citizens of Berlin and visitors from all over the world attended this celebration, and those who could\u00a0not attend were able to watch it on television.\u00a0 Maybe you even saw it yourself!\u00a0 You would have liked the giant dominoes that reenacted the fall of the Berlin Wall!\u00a0 Each one of the dominoes was individually painted, mostly by children of Berlin but also by artists from many countries around the world, to represent what the wall meant and its place in history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/heckerydekkerydot4ifuwerehere.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dscf2411-edited-berlin-wall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-497\" title=\"DSCF2411 edited  Berlin Wall\" src=\"http:\/\/heckerydekkerydot4ifuwerehere.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dscf2411-edited-berlin-wall.jpg?w=268\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong><em>Das Brandenburger Tor<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>The Brandenburg Gate<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Berlin ist ein ganz besonderer Ort! &#8211; <strong><em>Berlin is a really \u201cspecial\u201d place! <\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Von 1961 bis 1989 ging eine 4 Meter hohe Mauer durch und um die Stadt Berlin. Sie<br \/>\nwurde die \u201eBerliner Mauer\u201c genannt und hatte nur wenige Stellen, an denen man\u00a0durch die Mauer kam. Diese Kontrollpunkte wurden \u201eCheckpoints\u201c genannt. Sie k\u00f6nnen jetzt wieder .das tun, was sie m\u00f6chten, und das ist wirklich etwas <strong><em>Besonderes <\/em><\/strong>f\u00fcr alle! Denk mal nach, wie du dich f\u00fchlen w\u00fcrdest, wenn dir nicht erlaubt wird, das zu tun, was du wirklich m\u00f6chtest! Das w\u00e4re \u00fcberhaupt nicht lustig, oder?<\/p>\n<p>Alle freuen sich, dass die Berliner wieder frei reisen k\u00f6nnen und das wieder machen k\u00f6nnen, was sie m\u00f6chten! In der Tat wurde eine riesige Feier zum 20. Jahrestag des Mauerfalls vor dem Brandenburger Tor veranstaltet. Viele Staatschefs, viele Berliner B\u00fcrger und Besucher aus der ganzen Welt haben an der Feier teilgenommen, und die, die nicht kommen konnten, konnten das Ereignis im Fernsehen verfolgen. Vielleicht hast du es selbst gesehen!
